Free editor help
Use this page when you are inside the free editor and need the next click. It follows the same tool names you see in the editor rail.

Help topic
Choose a device
Pick the frame your product should appear inside.
Where to click
Open Device in the left rail.
Do this
- Choose iPhone, Samsung, Screen, or MacBook for the free editor.
- Use phone devices for mobile apps, MacBook for websites and SaaS dashboards, and Screen when the product UI should stay large.
- If a device has a Pro label, clicking it opens the Pro upgrade path instead of changing the free scene.
Common mistakes
- Do not pick a phone for a wide desktop recording unless you are ready to crop the recording heavily.
- If the screen looks too small, try Screen or MacBook before changing your upload.
If it still fails
If the device does not change after clicking it, refresh the editor and try the same free device again.
Help topic
Upload image or video media
Place your screenshot or screen recording on the device screen.
Where to click
Open Media in the left rail, or drag an image/video file onto the editor.
Do this
- Use a clean screenshot for one product state, or a short video when motion explains the feature.
- Prefer common browser-friendly files such as PNG, JPG, WebP, or MP4.
- Wait for the preview to update before exporting, especially for video uploads.
Common mistakes
- Avoid huge source videos for quick tests. Start with a short clip, then replace it with a higher-quality source.
- Remove private customer data, tokens, emails, and internal URLs before uploading.
If it still fails
If the media does not appear, try a shorter MP4 or a PNG screenshot and reload the page.
Help topic
Fit, replace, or clear media
Fix cropping, swap the upload, or go back to the placeholder.
Where to click
Open Media after a file is uploaded.
Do this
- Use the media controls to adjust how the file sits inside the device screen.
- Upload a new file to replace the current media.
- Use Clear or remove media when you want to return to the device placeholder.
Common mistakes
- Do not fix every crop problem in the editor. Sometimes the source recording should be captured at the right aspect ratio first.
- Check the final export size, not only the large preview, because small UI text can become unreadable.
If it still fails
If a replaced video still shows the old frame, reload the editor and upload the new file again.
Help topic
Change the scene background
Set the color, gradient, or pattern behind the device.
Where to click
Open Scene in the left rail.
Do this
- Choose Color for the cleanest background.
- Choose Gradient or Pattern when the mockup needs more energy.
- Image backgrounds are a Pro feature in the free editor, so selecting Image opens the Pro path.
Common mistakes
- Avoid backgrounds with contrast too close to the device or product screen.
- Do not let the background become more noticeable than the product UI.
If it still fails
If you get lost, switch back to Color and choose a simple light or dark background.
Help topic
Adjust glare and lighting
Tune reflections so the mockup feels polished without hiding the screen.
Where to click
Open Glare in the left rail.
Do this
- Increase glare for a more glossy device look.
- Reduce glare when it covers important text in the uploaded media.
- Preview the full animation before exporting because glare can change as the device moves.
Common mistakes
- Strong glare can look premium in preview but make small UI labels hard to read.
- Do not judge glare on a paused frame only.
If it still fails
If the screen is hard to read, lower glare first, then simplify the background.
Help topic
Use preset animations
Choose a ready-made camera/device motion.
Where to click
Open Animations in the left rail.
Do this
- Pick an animation that makes the device readable quickly.
- Use phone vertical animations for social-style output and wide animations for landing pages or dashboards.
- Press play in the rail to preview the motion before export.
Common mistakes
- Do not choose the most dramatic motion if viewers need to read a dense dashboard.
- Avoid changing animations right before export without replaying the full preview.
If it still fails
If the motion feels too busy, choose a slower or straighter animation and keep the background simple.
Help topic
Add text overlays
Add short labels that explain what viewers are seeing.
Where to click
Open Text in the left rail.
Do this
- Use one short line for the main benefit or feature name.
- Keep text away from the product screen when the UI itself is important.
- Preview on a small screen size if the export will be used on social media.
Common mistakes
- Too much text makes the video feel slower and hides the product.
- Long words can crowd mobile exports. Short labels usually work better.
If it still fails
If the composition feels crowded, remove the text and export a clean product-only version first.
Help topic
Export an MP4
Render the mockup video in HD or 4K.
Where to click
Click Export in the topbar, then choose the export settings.
Do this
- Choose HD for quick checks and 4K for final launch assets.
- Keep Background set to Scene in the free editor.
- Start the export and keep the tab open until the file is saved.
Common mistakes
- Do not export before the uploaded video duration has loaded.
- Avoid running many heavy tabs while exporting a long 4K video.
If it still fails
If export fails, try HD first, shorten the source video, or switch to a current Chromium-based desktop browser.
Help topic
Save projects
Keep work for later instead of rebuilding the mockup.
Where to click
Click Save in the editor topbar.
Do this
- Sign in or create an account if the editor asks for it.
- Give the project a recognizable name.
- Open saved work later from My Templates or the dashboard.
Common mistakes
- Saving does not replace doing a final export. Save the project and export the finished video when ready.
- If you are not signed in, follow the account prompt before leaving the page.
If it still fails
If a saved project does not load, open My Templates again or report a bug from the editor topbar.
Help topic
Report a bug
Send enough detail for support to understand what happened.
Where to click
Click Report bug in the editor or export topbar.
Do this
- Describe what you clicked, what file type you uploaded, and what you expected to happen.
- Include your email if you want a reply.
- Submit from the editor when possible so recent app errors are included automatically.
Common mistakes
- Do not send passwords, private customer data, payment-card details, or secret keys.
- A message like 'it broke' is hard to investigate. Include the device, browser, and action.
If it still fails
If the bug form itself fails, email contact@buildwithdeni.com.
Help topic
Upload and export troubleshooting
Fix the most common media and rendering problems.
Where to click
Use this when upload, preview, or export does not behave as expected.
Do this
- Refresh once and retry with a small PNG screenshot to separate upload issues from video-codec issues.
- Use a shorter MP4 if the preview or export gets stuck.
- Close heavy browser tabs before exporting 4K.
- Try a current Chromium-based desktop browser if another browser fails.
Common mistakes
- Do not keep retrying the same huge source file without testing a smaller file first.
- Do not leave the export tab before the browser finishes saving the file.
If it still fails
If the problem repeats, use Report bug and mention the browser, device choice, file type, and whether HD or 4K failed.
